TerraSmart, a leading turn-key ground mount provider, says it has completed the largest ground mount PV system in the Bahamas. Located on the private island Cat Cay, the project uses 448 groundscrews, which enabled the project to be completed without the complexity of a concrete foundation.
Additionally, because the foundation was installed in solid oolitic limestone commonly found in the region, TerraSmart was able to provide a cost-effective solution that would not have been possible with driven piles.
“No other foundation solution has the versatility, speed and success rate in all soil types as the TerraSmart ground screw foundatio,” says TerraSmart construction manager Richard Van Fleet. “The site was very difficult, but our turn-key ground mount racking solution was perfectly suited for the field conditions by leveraging our years of experience with rock-drilling, surveying and screw installation. As a result, our team was able to overcome all of the challenges on the island with ease.”
By partnering with TerraSmart, Cat Cay Yacht Club will now be able to provide a reliable and cost-effective energy source to tourists, staff and homeowners through renewable energy.
Prior to the fixed PV ground mount project, the island relied on diesel power generation. The project will provide 550-kW of sustainable energy.
Even with extremely arduous soil types, TerraSmart’s rock drill solution lets developers build solar projects on site locations which were previously believed to be impossible for construction.
