Solar Power In Palo Alto
The JCC project in Palo Alto, Calif., demonstrates the advantage of Tigo Energy’s smart module technology, which the company says enables 30% longer strings. The project saved over five cents per watt on balance of systems costs by reducing the number of strings required on the installation.

“We evaluated Trinasmart optimized by Tigo Energy and found that it offered a superior solution for our project economics. With Trinasmart we can increase our string lengths by 30%, reducing balance of systems costs by over five cents per watt, while also enhancing the energy output of the array over the lifetime of the system. We think of ourselves as innovation leaders and we think this project represents the future of commercial solar.” – Zach Rubin, CEO ThinkNRG

Location: Sunnyvale, CA

Upsolar recently completed certification of its smart modules optimized by Tigo Energy to UL 1000V standards for the North American market. This certification allows the modules to be used in 1000V applications.

Using patented smart module technology from Tigo Energy, Upsolar’s modules also enable 30% longer strings than traditional modules. This means that 60-cell modules can be strung in series up to 30 modules or 6kW and 72-cell modules can be strung in 27 module strings or 8.1kW.

This functionality enables system installers to reduce the number of strings and the corresponding material and labor costs associated with each string.

By moving from a 600V traditional system to a 1000V smart module array balance of systems cost savings can be over ten cents per watt in reduced combiner and wiring costs.
