Specialty insurance provider Assurant, Inc.’s solar group and independent solar operations and maintenance services provider True South Renewables (TSR), announce plans to strengthen the comprehensive risk management offerings available to commercial-scale solar project owners. Under TSR ’s Warranty Risk Avoidance Plan, project owners can purchase solar O&M embedded with the warranty management program offered by Assurant.
“Our robust O&M combined with Assurant’s warranty management program allows project owners to secure the long-term financial performance of their solar systems,” says Rue Phillips, CEO of TSR. “With this coverage, TSR will repair or replace defective components covered by a manufacturers’ warranty first and settle the claim with the manufacturer later. This will reduce down time, maximize performance and provide customers greater assurance on their return on investment.”
Assurant’s warranty management program covers solar panels, inverters and racking systems warranted by their original equipment manufacturer. The protection provides one-call resolution, authorizing and paying claims, labor and shipping for replacement parts on any warranted equipment. The service coverage will replace degraded equipment due to wear and tear in accordance with the manufacturer’s warranty terms, even if the manufacturer is no longer in business. It also covers re-installation, de-installation, replacement and testing. The warranty management program complements TSR’s comprehensive O&M service, which provides for real-time performance monitoring and alarm triage, thermal scans, inverter preventative maintenance, biannual inspections of the arrays and balance of systems.
“We are thrilled to be expanding our relationship with TSR, which already provides field service support for solar projects protected by Assurant,” says Jeanne Schwartz, vice president of new venture commercialization at Assurant, Inc. “Our warranty protection and True South Renewable’s expertise in O&M have proven to ensure real-time responsiveness and minimize risk to project owners. Now more solar project owners will have an opportunity to benefit from this combined protection plan.”
Commercial-scale project owners can purchase TSR’s Warranty Risk Avoidance Plan for one, two or three years.
