As the June to November hurricane season in the Caribbean approaches, Renusol America today announces that its solar panel mounting solutions have been installed in twelve rooftop systems across the Dominican Republic by Eco Planeta Solar, a leading Dominican Republic solar power system design and installation company. An additional eight projects with Renusol America mounting systems are scheduled for completion by Eco Planeta Solar by the end of October 2016. The twenty installations will generate a total output of 630kW.
The most recent completed projects with the Renusol MS for trapezoidal sheet metal roofs include a carport at the Cadaques Resort in Bayahibe and a rooftop system at Tienda Topito, which manufactures and sells school uniforms. The non-penetrating, ballasted Renusol CS60 mounting systems were installed on rooftops at two bank (Banreservas) locations, one in Santo Domingo and the other in La Romana.
“With plenty of sunshine year round and a strong tax incentive law, solar is now a great investment in the Dominican Republic,” notes Ernst Cooiman, Eco Planeta Solar’s Co-President. “But as an island in a salt-air environment and in the path of potentially devastating hurricanes, special consideration for which materials and products are installed is essential.”
The Renusol MS mounting system fastens directly to a sheet metal roof, without rails, which means a lower profile for the installed panels and less potential for ‘lift’ and damage from high winds. Waterproof-tested and with all stainless steel and aluminum construction materials, the Renusol MS is designed for longevity and durability in the type of marine environments found in the Caribbean.
The Renusol CS60 is made from a 100% recycled high molecular weight plastic, which is also ideal for a marine environment. Developed to incorporate groundbreaking wind tunnel testing results, the ‘one piece per panel’ Renusol CS60 allows for customizable ballast placement across an array, an important consideration when engineering installations in high wind areas.
“Our Renusol CS60 and Renusol MS mounting systems are a great match for the growing solar market in the Dominican Republic,” said Renusol America President Bart Leusink. “Not only are they durable in adverse conditions, but with fewer parts and no rails needed to mount the panels, they are easier to ship to the island and deliver once there. They are also easier to install, which means less training is needed and lower overall installation costs.”
Cooiman expects future rooftop projects in the Dominican Republic with Renusol CS60 mounting systems to include another three bank offices in Santo Domingo and in the eastern part of the country and an off-the-grid project in Las Terrenas. The Renusol MS will be part of installations on a heli-hangar in the north, on a small factory in Santo Domingo and on a business building in La Romana.
