NRG Energy celebrated a new solar project with the community of Lakeland, Florida. The project is NRG’s first in Florida, according to The Ledger.

The 3.15-MW installation has been providing power to Lakeland since October. It’s owned and operated by NRG, but the public utility, Lakeland Electric, has agreed to purchase all energy from the facility at 11.3 cents per kWh for the next 25 years.

NRG acquired the solar farm through the SunEdison bankruptcy last year. The company appears to have further plans for partnerships in Florida as well.

“Everybody knows it’s a sunny state and the cost of solar energy gets cheaper every year,” said Daniel Keyes, an associate in NRG’s mergers and acquisitions section, according to The Ledger.
