Innovative dual-axis solar trackers are now powering two homes in Longmont, Colordo. The first tracker powers 20 345-W SunPower panels for a total system capacity of 6.9 kW and is expected to produce 15,837 kWh annually. The second system has 24 345-W panels for a total system capacity of 8.28 kW and is expected to produce 19,002 kWh annually. Each of these solar energy systems will offset 100% of each property’s electric bills.

These projects use American-made AllEarth Solar Trackers, which track the sun throughout the day to maximize energy production. The ground-mounted pre-engineered solar trackers are designed for residential and commercial-scale installations and are manufactured in Williston, Vermont, by AllEarth Renewables.

AllEarth Solar Trackers produce over 30% more energy than fixed ground-mounted systems and up to 45% more energy than rooftop systems per kilowatt installed.

Both projects were installed by Independent Power Systems, a Boulder-based solar company that has been designing and installing robust, high-value solar power and battery backup systems for homes and businesses in Colorado and beyond for over twenty years.

“I was at first skeptical about introducing moving parts to the solid-state nature of PV, but I have been very impressed with the AllEarth trackers and promote them without hesitation,” says Tony Boniface, P.E., owner and founder of IPS. “To date, we have installed six of them without issues. I can’t say that about the other tracker brands we have installed; the AllEarth tracker is a radically different design and built with integrity at its core.”

Tracker owner Brad Wallace reported, “Our tracker system has only been up less than a month so we are still learning what it will do. So far, in January, we seem to be getting more days sending excess power back to the grid than not. It’s fun to watch it operate during the day, and it has already demonstrated how it operates during adverse conditions like high winds and heavy snow. I’ve been impressed with the engineering.”

“We are excited to be working with the team at Independent Power Systems, and to be able to provide our product to Colorado’s Front Range. Designed to produce more energy from the sun, our trackers make solar practical and affordable for homeowners and businesses,” said David Blittersdorf, president and CEO of AllEarth Renewables.
