SMA has added two new models to its popular Sunny Boy TL-US line of transformerless inverters with Secure Power Supply. Ideal for smaller, service-constrained systems and larger residential PV projects, respectively, the Sunny Boy 3800TL-US and 6000TL-US include the capability to provide daytime power in the event of a grid outage.
The Sunny Boy 3800TL-US is specially configured for homes with 100-amp service panels, allowing solar installers to maximize system size and energy production without expensive service panel upgrades. SMA has also given solar installers more flexibility in addressing larger residential systems with the Sunny Boy 6000TL-US, in which professionals can take advantage of the inverter’s higher power rating and dual maximum power point (MPP) trackers for projects with multiple roof orientations.
Like the rest of the Sunny Boy TL-US line of residential inverters, these new models include the Secure Power Supply feature, which addresses the needs of grid-tied system owners during power outages. Secure Power Supply makes it possible for the inverter to provide up to 1,500 W of daytime standby power in the event of a grid outage for charging laptops, cell phones and more, without the need of additional, costly batteries.
“The addition of these Sunny Boy TL-US models allows more residential PV customers to take advantage of the groundbreaking Secure Power Supply feature,” said Henry Dziuba, president and general manager of SMA America and president of SMA Canada. “This broadens the product portfolio of the solar installer, who is able to offer a more technologically advanced inverter solution with added value to a larger client base.”
Additional features of the Sunny Boy TL-US series include a transformerless design that ensures high efficiency and reduced weight, and integrated DC AFCI functionality meeting NEC arc-fault protection requirements and certified to the UL 1699B standard. It also provides easy monitoring and control features, including a large graphic display and the optional plug-and-play Webconnect data module for easy system monitoring with direct data transmission to Sunny Portal.
With leading CEC efficiencies, a wide input voltage and extended operating temperature ranges from -40 to 140 F, the Sunny Boy TL-US series offers maximum power production under a variety of conditions. The inverter’s shade-tolerant OptiTrac™ Global Peak MPP tracking algorithm and two MPP trackers provide increased energy production for complex arrays with partial shading or multiple roof orientations.
