According to the Wall Street Journal, former Sunrun sales managers said they were told by their superiors to manipulate sales numbers by not reporting customer cancellations for about a five-month period in mid-2015. The news comes a few weeks after Sunrun shareholders filed a class action suit “for alleged violations of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 by Sunrun’s officers and directors,” per a press release from the law firm representing the shareholders.

One former manager spoke to the Wall Street Journal’s Kirsten Grind: “’The big internal push was to cram as many sales as we could through the pipeline,’ said Darren Jennings, who says he was a Sunrun regional sales manager in Hawaii from February 2015 until February 2017. ‘If those deals canceled, we would not report it.’”

Jennings told the Wall Street Journal that in Hawaii, sales employees didn’t process about 200 cancellations, “which represented about 40% of total orders in Hawaii during the May 2015-October 2015 period.”
