Lumos Solar, a Boulder, Colo., based design-centric solar product company, recently announced that TD Bank chose Lumos LSX frameless solar modules to cover their retail drive-thru structures. These structures provide essential shade and protection from the elements for bank customers as well as producing clean, renewable energy, helping TD Bank meet their sustainability goals.

TD Bank’s goal is “to be as green as their logo” by working with their employees, customers and communities to reduce their environmental impact. In 2010, TD Bank became the first North America-based bank to become carbon neutral and in 2012, they decided that all new retail locations in the U.S. must achieve LEED certification.

“TD Bank’s green efforts are truly inspirational and a great example of real leadership in sustainability,” says Scott Franklin, CEO of Lumos Solar. “We are very proud to have the opportunity to work with such a progressive company and help them achieve their goal of incorporating renewable energy into all of their new retail locations.”

To achieve LEED certifications, all new branches must integrate solar. As these branches are a visual representation of the bank and their green efforts, aesthetics was an important selection criterion in their choice of solar panels. After seeing the Lumos LSX modules installed on the SolarScapes structure at Greenbuild 2013 in Philadelphia, the bank decided that LSX was exactly what they were looking for. With its frameless design, LSX modules will seamlessly integrate into the architecture of TD Bank buildings. Other features critical to TD Bank were the ability to weatherproof the array with LSXSeal and module durability.

Constructed of 6 mm tempered solar glass, LSX is capable of withstanding 113psf, and will easily hold up to the heaviest snow and wind loads, says Lumos. In addition, LSX modules have achieved a Class 4 Hail Rating, making them the most impact resistant modules in the industry.
