Technology: First Solar
First Solar began delivery of a record-setting efficiency of over 16% for CdTe PV modules, making them on-par with best-selling multi-crystalline Si modules. This culminates a multi-year development effort by the company to simultaneously reduce module cost and improve performance of thin-film PV modules.
Policy: City of Georgetown, Texas
The City of Georgetown, led by Mayor Dale Ross, has launched an admirable plan to convert the municipal utility company to 100% renewable energy by 2017, including energy from a 150 MW solar farm, one of the largest in the state, a decision made to meet long-term energy needs.
