Portland’s mayor and Multnomah County’s county chair announced Monday that the city pledges to go 100% renewable by 2050, according to The Oregonian. Cities across the country are lining up to make the commitment as part of the Sierra Club’s Ready for 100 campaign.
The Sierra Club’s Ready for 100 campaign now includes more than 25 cities.
“Portland has been working on climate change since it became the first U.S. city to adopt a carbon reduction strategy in 1993. In addition to making its own moves to use clean energy, the city said in a statement that it plans to resist any federal policy changes that increase carbon emissions.”
“County Chair Deborah Kafoury described the effort as a pledge to children, allowing them to have a future with cleaner air and more economic opportunity.”
