SunivaSuniva recently began construction on its second U.S. solar manufacturing facility in Saginaw Township, Mich. The new facility will act as a supplement to the other manufacturing facility at Suniva’s headquarters in Norcross, Ga., providing an additional 200 MW of the company’s solar modules.

“The U.S. is now one of the top three markets for the global solar industry,” says Marc Rogovin, vice president of corporate services for Suniva. “Given that, expanding our U.S. manufacturing operation makes a lot of sense and we believe Michigan is the ideal location.”

Designed and engineered by William A. Kibbe & Associates, the 129,000 sq. ft. manufacturing plant will be completed by multiple Michigan-based contractors. Suniva posted more than 65 jobs on July 25, and is finalizing its initial round of hiring this week. The company plans to create a total of 350 jobs as the plant scales to full capacity.

“With the region’s rich manufacturing facility, we have a highly-skilled workforce to draw from and many key supply chain partners in the area,” Rogovin continues. “Michigan is a central location with the logistics infrastructure that makes it very easy for us to move our products.”
